Use Aretus in ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants

Last updated

Aretus is opening an MCP server, so that ChatGPT, Claude and other AI assistants can convert Publisher (.pub) files to PDF for you. It opens with the converter in a few days. The assistant will start the conversion and give you a link: you check every page and pay once on our site, with no account.

MCP server address

Not open yet

Available when the converter opens in a few days.

It will be at https://api.aretus.app/mcp. Until the converter opens, this address doesn't answer, so adding it now won't work.

What it does

Your assistant sends Aretus links to your .pub files, or to a ZIP of them, and gets back each file's page count, any warnings and watermarked previews of the pages. In ChatGPT you can also attach the files to the chat. Aretus downloads files only from public web addresses, with size and time limits.

It's the same converter as on this site: every file comes back as a PDF, PNG and JPG page images, an ODG you can edit in LibreOffice Draw and a DOCX with the text. Aretus is an independent service, not affiliated with Microsoft.

Add it to Claude

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors, and choose to add a custom connector.
  2. Name it Aretus and paste the MCP server address. There's no sign-in to set up.
  3. In a chat, turn Aretus on under + and Connectors, then ask Claude to convert your .pub files, with a link to them.

Add it in ChatGPT's developer mode

  1. In Settings, turn on developer mode (under Apps & Connectors, then Advanced).
  2. Choose Create, name it Aretus, paste the MCP server address, choose no authentication and confirm that you trust it.
  3. In a chat, pick Aretus from the developer mode tools, then attach your files or paste links to them.

Menu names change from time to time. Custom connectors work on every Claude plan; which ChatGPT plans include developer mode varies. If a step doesn't match what you see, look for “connectors”, “developer mode” or “MCP” in the app's settings or help pages.

Other assistants and tools

Any app that can connect to a remote MCP server can use Aretus: give it the address above. There's no account and no sign-in.

The four tools

convert_publisher_files(file_urls)
Converts .pub files, or ZIPs of them, from public links (up to 20 at a time) or, in ChatGPT, attached files. Returns a job ID, each file's pages and warnings, watermarked previews, the price and a link to pay.
get_conversion(job_id)
Checks a conversion: status, previews, the price and a link to your batch page on Aretus, where you check every page and pay. Once you've paid, it also gives the download link.
get_free_file(job_id, file_id, email)
Gets one converted file free, without the watermark. One free file per person and per batch. It needs your own email address, which the assistant should ask you for.
get_pricing()
Lists the one-time prices, what's free, the size limits and how long files are kept.

How paying works

  • The assistant can't pay for you, and it never sees card details.
  • It gives you a link to your batch on aretus.app. There you check a watermarked preview of every page of the first 10 files.
  • If it looks right, you pay once through Paddle, our payment provider: $5 for up to 10 files, $15 for up to 60, $29 for up to 300, or $59 for up to 2,000. The plan is chosen by how many files converted, and files that fail are never charged. No subscription and no account.
  • After you've paid, download the ZIP from the same page, or ask the assistant for the download link.

REST API

Prefer plain HTTP? The same service has a REST API, described in an OpenAPI spec. Available when the converter opens in a few days, at https://api.aretus.app/openapi.json.

Privacy

Files your assistant sends are treated like files uploaded on this site: converted in a locked-down sandbox and deleted 24 hours after upload. The links themselves aren't logged.

Aretus only receives what the tools are given (links or attached files, a job ID, and your email address if you ask for the free file), not your conversation. For the free file it keeps only a one-way hash of your email address and sends you no email.

Questions

Do I need an account to use Aretus in an AI assistant?

No. There's no account and no sign-in. Each batch has its own private link, where you check the preview and pay.

Can the assistant pay for my files?

No. The assistant gives you a link; you check the preview and pay once on our site through Paddle. Card details never pass through the assistant.

Which AI assistants work with Aretus?

Any assistant that can connect to a remote MCP server, including Claude (as a custom connector, on any plan) and ChatGPT (added in developer mode, on the plans that include it).
